- The Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice John Tsoho, ruled in favour of the anti-graft agency, saying that Patience Jonathan's complaints were not sustainable
- The ex-First Lady filed the suit on June 30, 2017 in which she accused the commission of harassing her over political views she held in 2015
Nigeria's ex-First Lady Patience Jonathan has lost the N2 billion suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Punch reports.
360h.blogspot.com gathered that a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, January 30, dismissed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit filed by Patience against the EFCC, of violating her various rights.
She had in her suit filed on June 30, 2017, accused the EFCC of harassing her over political views she held in 2015.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, Janaury 30, Justice John Tsoho, ruled that none of her complaints against the EFCC was sustainable.
According to him, none of her rights, including rights to fair hearing, own property, family life, dignity of human person, and freedom from discrimination, was violated by the actions of the EFCC in the agency’s handling of the investigations of bank accounts and properties linked to her and her relatives.
The judge held that since the former first lady failed to prove her allegations against the commission, she was not entitled to any of the six prayers, including N2 billion damages, sought in the suit.
According to him, Patience’s case was weakened by the fact that the EFCC had said its investigations were ongoing.

In a related development, NAIJ.com previously reported that Patience Jonathan recovered her N2 billion hotel which was sealed off by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in June 2017.
The EFCC had placed the red inscriptions ‘EFCC Under Investigation’ all over the hotel which is located near Setraco Construction Company, off the Mabushi Kado Expressway.
