Bantex said the decision to hold the session followed a briefing from the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Mongonu (rtd), on the security situation in the country.

The Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Mr Bala Bantex made this known on Thursday at the end of the NEC meeting presided by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.Bantex said the decision to hold the session followed a briefing from the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. Babagana Mongonu (rtd), on the security situation in the country.According to him, unemployment constitutes a major threat to security in the country.“The council was briefed by the National Security Adviser (NSA) on the security situation in the country with particular reference to Boko Haram insurgency in the North East, cattle rustling, ethnic militias/security outfits, kidnapping, armed robbery, militancy in the Niger Delta, proliferation of small arms across the country.“In their response, council members highlighted the potential roles and the significance of the Federal Government’s social investment programmes in averting some of the threats.“Council agreed to hold an extra ordinary session to discuss security matters especially as it has to do with the economy,’’ he said.Bantex said that the governors used the occasion of the meeting to welcome the president home and prayed for his good health.He said the governors also thanked the president for his support to the states.Recall that the Federal Government had provided various facilities including the payment of N522 billion London-Paris Club deductions to assist the states to balance their portfolios.President Buhari also directed the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, “to act appropriately and with dispatch in releasing the second tranche of the London-Paris Club refunds to the states.’’
